Path to Faith
A Global Reading Project for Books of Faith and Philosophy
Path to Faith (P2F) is a non-denominational, interfaith reading initiative dedicated to the academic exploration of sacred and philosophical texts. The project invites participants to engage with foundational writings of world religions, not as instruments of conversion, but as cultural and historical documents that have shaped human civilization.
Through structured reading, dialogue, and contextual study, Path to Faith seeks to promote intellectual curiosity, cultural literacy, and respectful discourse across belief systems.

What is P2F?
Path to Faith was established as an educational platform for individuals interested in understanding faith through scholarship rather than doctrine. Each study cycle centers on one major text, read sequentially and discussed through a critical yet open lens.
Participants analyze narrative structures, linguistic variations, and moral philosophies while considering historical context and modern interpretation. The initiative encourages readers to identify recurring archetypes and values that transcend time, culture, and creed.
The group welcomes all perspectives; religious, secular, or undecided, under the shared premise that understanding a text deepens understanding of the people who live by it.
Methodology and Academic Approach
The P2F methodology draws from the disciplines of comparative religion, literary analysis, history, and cultural anthropology.
Each study includes:
-
Close Reading: A sequential examination of the text, focusing on language, symbolism, and translation.
-
Contextualization: Exploration of historical settings, authorship debates, and sociopolitical influences.
-
Comparative Analysis: Juxtaposition of themes, moral structures, and cosmologies across traditions.
-
Reflective Dialogue: Structured discussion emphasizing interpretation, evidence, and civility.
This approach mirrors that of a university seminar; scholarly, disciplined, and guided by inquiry rather than ideology (except we don't meet in a class; we meet virtually, over coffee and in our comfy clothes =)).
Current Text: The Bible (NIV)
The inaugural cycle of P2F begins with the Bible, one of history’s most influential and studied texts. The focus is academic: tracing the narrative arc from Genesis through Revelation while examining linguistic evolution, literary motifs, and historical context.
Participants read approximately five pages of primary text per day, completing the study in roughly one year. The facilitator references multiple scholarly editions, including the NIV Study Bible, to provide cultural and historical annotations.
Each month corresponds to a segment of the canon, marked visually in the project’s Timeline Graphic, which traces the progression “from Genesis 1 to the end” with milestones, discussion points, and reflective themes.

Future Studies
Following completion of the Bible, the Path to Faith program will expand into a sequence of cross-cultural readings, each selected for its theological, literary, or philosophical significance:
-
Bhagavad Gītā - The dialogue of dharma and duty within Hindu philosophy.
-
Dhammapada - Foundational teachings of the Buddha on ethics and enlightenment.
-
Qur’an - Exploration of revelation, justice, and compassion in Islamic theology.
-
Tao Te Ching - A philosophical examination of balance, virtue, and natural order in Taoism.
Additional cycles will include non-organized and indigenous traditions to explore how humanity has articulated faith, morality, and meaning across millennia.
Community and Discourse Standards
Path to Faith operates according to principles of scholarly conduct designed to ensure rigorous, inclusive, and respectful exchange:
-
Respect for all traditions: Critique of ideas must never become criticism of identities.
-
Intellectual honesty: Cite sources where possible and distinguish interpretation from fact.
-
Civility in disagreement: Debate is encouraged; hostility is not.
-
Privacy and integrity: Discussions remain confidential within the group environment.
-
Non-proselytizing environment: The forum exists for study, not conversion or recruitment.
Moderation aligns with academic standards of respectful inquiry and ensures that dialogue remains productive and evidence-based.
