[Episode 13] Special Guest: USMC Combat Vet, Law Enforcement Vet, Entrepreneur & More, Martin Madrigal

In this week’s episode of The Dr. V Podcast, I had the privilege of speaking with Martin Madrigal, an inspiring individual whose story redefines the meaning of the American Dream. From his humble beginnings as the child of immigrant parents working in agricultural fields to becoming a Marine, a law enforcement officer, and now a successful entrepreneur, Martin’s journey is a testament to resilience, hard work, and the power of purpose.

Overcoming Early Challenges

Martin’s story begins in Orland, California, where his parents worked tirelessly in the fields after immigrating from Mexico. Growing up, Martin faced financial struggles, language barriers, and low expectations from those around him. Despite these challenges, he was determined to carve a different path for himself, fueled by the memory of 9/11 and a desire to serve his country.

His enlistment in the Marine Corps was no easy feat. From struggling with academic requirements to enduring the rigors of boot camp, Martin pushed through every obstacle with a grit that would define his future endeavors.

Military Service and Its Impact

Martin’s time in the Marines took him across the globe, including deployments to Iraq and Okinawa, Japan. His role in quick reaction forces (QRF) gave him a firsthand look at the intensity of combat and the sacrifices required of service members. These experiences shaped him but also left scars that he would later confront in his journey toward mental health and self-discovery.

A Transition to Law Enforcement

After leaving the military, Martin transitioned into law enforcement, where he spent over a decade serving his community. However, he faced new challenges, including shifts in public perception, demanding schedules, and the emotional toll of the job. While Martin excelled professionally, he began to realize that his passion lay elsewhere.

Building a Legacy in Texas

Seeking a fresh start, Martin and his family relocated to Texas, where he turned his attention to entrepreneurship. Today, Martin is part-owner of multiple Powerhouse Gyms and is launching Humble Vaquero, a lifestyle clothing brand that celebrates hardworking individuals from all walks of life.

With a focus on quality, humility, and inclusivity, Humble Vaquero represents Martin’s commitment to creating something meaningful that resonates with people who share his values. You can check out the brand here.

The Importance of Mental Health

One of the most impactful parts of our conversation was Martin’s openness about mental health. As a veteran and former law enforcement officer, Martin has faced his share of struggles, including post-traumatic stress. He emphasized the importance of seeking help, breaking the stigma around mental health, and being there for others.

If you or someone you know is struggling, resources like Give an Hour and the Cohen's Veteran Network are available to provide free or low-cost mental health support. Don’t hesitate to reach out—help is always available.

Final Thoughts

Martin’s story is more than just a tale of overcoming adversity—it’s a blueprint for living with purpose and intention. From his commitment to family and community to his entrepreneurial spirit, Martin embodies the values of resilience, determination, and humility.

I’m incredibly grateful to have had Martin on the podcast, and I hope his story inspires you as much as it inspired me. Be sure to listen to the full episode, check out Humble Vaquero, and explore the mental health resources linked below.
