[Episode 12] EDC Toolkit for all situations - for beginners, experts, and especially WOMEN

Welcome back to the Dr. Virga Podcast! This week, I shared an in-depth look at my Everyday Carry (EDC) toolkit—a compact, customizable setup I keep in my bag for daily use and emergencies. Inspired by EDC enthusiasts online, I’ve tailored my kit to meet my needs as a busy professional, outdoors enthusiast, and veteran. For women especially, creating an EDC kit can be a game-changer, offering both convenience and preparedness.

The Foundation: My EDC Pouch

At the heart of my kit is the MAXPEDITION Beefy Pocket Organizer, a compact and MOLLE-compatible tactical pouch. It’s perfect for keeping everything secure and organized in my Mystery Ranch 3-Day Assault backpack or any other bag. To make accessing my tools even easier, I’ve added Maxpedition Small Zipper Pulls, which make opening and closing the pouch quick and hassle-free.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s inside:

Knipex Cobra XS Mini Water Pump Pliers: Compact yet powerful pliers, ideal for gripping, bending, and small repairs.

Wera Tool-Check Plus Bit Ratchet Set: A versatile ratchet set with sockets for tackling diverse repair tasks.

SHARPAL 6-in-1 Knife Sharpener with Flint: A survival tool that sharpens blades, starts fires, and even includes a whistle for emergencies.

Rite in the Rain Weatherproof Notebook and EDC Pen]: These all-weather tools make it easy to jot down notes or sketches in any condition.

TISUR Titanium EDC Pry Bar: A durable and multifunctional crowbar with a bottle opener for unexpected tasks requiring leverage.

Nitecore NU25 400 UL Headlamp: A lightweight, USB-C rechargeable headlamp with multiple modes for low-light conditions.

Navaris Titanium Folding Utensil Set: A lightweight fork, knife, and spoon set that’s perfect for meals on the go.

MULWARK Mini Ratchet Screwdriver Set: A compact set of screwdrivers and bits for on-the-go repairs.

By MILLY Precision Tweezers: Needle-nose tweezers perfect for splinters and other precision tasks.

Knipex Cobra Pliers: Larger pliers with the same self-locking grip, perfect for more heavy-duty tasks.

Knipex Mini Pliers Wrench: A versatile tool with fine adjustment for tackling tricky tasks.

Damascus Steel Knife: A beautifully crafted and personalized knife for cutting tasks. This was a gift so I don't have a link to it. If you are in the market for a good knife, I'd check out Knafs Knives. (I'm not an affiliate, I just really like their stuff).

Why an EDC Kit?

As women, we often lack the pocket space that men take for granted, making a dedicated EDC kit a practical solution. My kit not only empowers me in day-to-day situations but also serves as a backup during emergencies. Whether it’s fixing something at work, addressing a minor injury, or simply opening a package, having the right tools on hand saves time and stress.

Tips for Starting Your Own EDC Kit

  1. Start Small: A flathead screwdriver, Phillips head, and wrench are great basics.

  2. Customize: Tailor your kit to your lifestyle and activities.

  3. Test Your Tools: Regularly check that everything works and suits your needs.

  4. Stay Portable: Keep your EDC lightweight and easy to transfer between bags.

Preparedness Matters

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of readiness—not just for myself but for others. Too often, I’ve seen people caught off guard in emergencies. While no one should have to be prepared for every scenario, the reality is that we live in an unpredictable world. An EDC kit is a simple, empowering step toward handling life’s challenges with confidence.
